From: Morgan County Kentucky, Best Bits. Vol. 1 by Corbet Cochran Jr., 1999: "Grassy Creek, May 22, 1911, Dear Editor: Death has again visited our community and taken our dear Aunt, Margaret E. Pieratt, to her sweet rest in the land that is fairer than day. She had suffered many years with Tuberculosis and was very much enfeebled thereby, but she visited her children and attended church until January 1911. Since then she visited very little if any at all, but seemed to enjoy herself, and her decline seemed less rapid than formerly. On May 15, I had been out to see some sick and on my return at 4 p.m., a neighbor said, Aunt Mag Pieratt sent for you to come by and see her. I passed by home and went direct to her house and found her in dying condition. I gave some directions for her comfort and returned home and telephoned her brothers of her condition. I returned in about two hours to see her again and found her much more comfortable than at first. But next day the paroxysm grew more severe and at 11:30 p.m., May 16, her happy spirit went to God who gave It. She was near 79 years old and was a devoted member of the Baptist Church from her youth. She was the youngest daughter of the late Hon. Joseph Carter. In her girlhood she married to John Pieratt, of whom she was robbed by the cruel Civil War in 1862, leaving her with five children, three girls and two little boys. She almost lived on her knees praying to God to help her rear her fatherless children. She kept them together and gave them and English education. The older son became a prominent Merchant of Lebanon, Va. The younger was Clerk of Morgan County Court. They both preceded their mother some years. Her daughters, Mrs. Mary Ann Lykins and Mrs. Frances E. Kilgore, of Grassy Creek, and Mrs. Martha C. Testerman, of Lexington, are left to mourn their loss. She also left several grandchildren and some great grandchildren. She leaves two grief stricken brothers, viz; Dr. W.G. Carter of West Liberty, and Dr. F.M. Carter, of Farmers, and a great host of brethren and friends. May they all be ready and willing as she was when the Lord shall call. When brethren would visit her she always expressed her willingness and readiness to depart and be with Jesus, just waiting until he says come. Let usall imitate her virtues and love and serve God until he shall say, 'Enough, well done and faithful servant, enter into the joy of thy Lord.' W.L. Gevedon. LVC 6/1/1911, Vol. #52, p.1, col.1."
