Notes |
I've spent a lot of time trying to link Joel Rainer to parents and other family members. The best documentation that I have at this time comes from the will of Amy Rainer in Sampson County, North Carolina, dated Aug. 1, 1833. That will lists a total of 11 children, one of whom is Joab/Joel Rainer. Amy Rainer was married to David Rainer of Sampson County, NC. Sampson County was originally part of Duplin County in the 1700's. It appears that the Rainer family was in Duplin County as early as 1763 when Daniel Rainer [Sr.] paid 40 pounds for 200 acres on the East side of N. east Branch of Cape Fear River, on the South side of Cypress Creek, at a place called "the Oak". I have used the census records, the will and the land records, and the close proximity of these families to conclude the relationship. Therefore, I am concluding that Joel Rainer was a child of David and Amy Rainer, and that David Rainer was one of the children of Daniel Rainer.
