• Notes

  From article "Goodpaster's of Morgan" in "Clippings from the Licking Valley Courier", it states, "Solomon Goodpaster, thought to be an older son of Jacob, later obtained the land that had been surveyed for Jacob. A survey for 70 acres was filed March 3, 1773 at Brock's Gap, in Solomon's name. By the year 1788 Solomon's name shows in the Washington County, Tennessee records. He bought 200 acres of land and another 62 acres in 1789. He began selling his property in 1791 and by 1794 had sold all of his land. His name appears in the 1800 census of Kentucky. According to Montgomery County will books, Solomon died Nov. 8, 1800. Solomon's son, Abraham, came to Bath County, from Tennessee around 1795. He married a lady by the name of Polly Lemon. To this union were born 11 children. A large family was a custom of the time. The more members in a family the more help on the farm, and also, there was a high mortality rate among small children.
