Name |
William MCDANIEL [4] |
- I was not 100% sure that this William is the correct son to George Cornelius McDaniel, but I am making the assumption based upon his going to Gibson County about the same time as George Cornelius McDaniel and George McDaniel.
The confusion lies in the references that he was born in Alabama. I believe that confusion has arisen because this McDaniel did live several years in Alabama before coming to Tennessee. In addition, Goodspeed's History of Tennessee says the McDaniel family came from South Carolina. I can find no evidence of that, but perhaps it was before they came through Kentucky to get to Tennessee.
However, in 2022, using the Thrulines on Ancestry.com, I discovered at least 6 DNA connections through William McDaniel in Gibson County, so I am 100% convinced now that this is the correct son of George Cornelius McDaniel.

In this census, since William owns 7 slaves. He now owns 3 male slaves in the age range of 10-23. He may have inherited George and/or Washington or Wesley from his father in 1835. Since he only owned one male slave in the 1830 census who was under 10, I think it is highly likely that he ended up with Washington and Wesley because they were born between 1820-1830, probably closer to 1825-1830.
In addition, William now owns a male slave aged 36-54. This could also be George, the adult owned and mentioned in the 1835 will. George was born approximately around 1800.

Notes |
- I have assumed that Cornelius McDaniel only had one wife, because I have not found a second marriage record to contradict that theory. However, his marriage record in Kentucky states that he is marrying Patsy Dickey. In his will, he leaves items to his "...beloved wife, Martha...".
In addition, when Cornelius sells his land in Alabama in 1834, Martha is also listed as a seller.
So, at this time, I am showing his wife as Martha "Patsy" Dickey.
