 | Frank Blecha History by Art Lang Art Lang, from DuBois Nebraska, was a great genealogist who did all of his work "the old fashioned way" without the use of computers. I am grateful to Art for the many large boxes in my office filled with genealogy documentation on the Blecha family. |
-
Notes |
- I had worked on the genealogy of Frank Blecha for many many years. It proved to be very difficult in locating his actual birth record (for himself and his wife, Margareta). Part of this was complicated by the fact that it had incorrectly been assumed that he was born near Hlince, Bohemia. Hlince is the village from which my own Blecha family originates. Because Frank's family lived fairly near the other Blecha's from Hlince, it was assumed that he, too, was from that area.
The new information that I uncovered in November 2015 connects Frank Blecha's family with the Matej Blecha who settled in Iowa and the Albert Blecha family that settled in Kansas.

[The following was the description provided by Art Lang. Please be cautioned that it is incorrect with respect to some information]
BIOGRAPHY: Frank and Margaret (SACHER) BLECHA were married in the Kingdom of
Bohemia which was in the Empire of Austria-Hungary prior to 1918. Their home
was in the village of Hlinec, near the larger city of Kralovice, in the county
of Llzen. It is believed that three infant children passed away before they
came to America in April of 1866 with their son James, an infant of six weeks.
The next nine years were spent in Baltimore, Maryland. This is where Frank P.
& Fannie BLECHA were born.
BIOGRAPHY: In approximately 1875, Frank & Margaret brought their family to the
prairies of Southeast Nebraska in the Steinauer, Nebraska vivinity. They made
their home in sections 16 & 17, Clear Creek Twp, Range II, East of the 6th P.M.
, Pawnee County, Nebraska. Here the family prospered, and in due time, Mary,
Joseph, & Anna BLECHA were born. In December 1895, tragedy was to strike again
Mary (BLECHA) SIMMONS died leaving a small infant daughter, Hazel. Hazel was
raised by her grandparents, the BLECHAS, & was know as Hazel BLECHA.
BIOGRAPHY: On December 25, 1912, Frank passed away and was buried at St.
Anthony's Catholic Cemetery east of Steinauer, Nebraska. His wife Margaret
lived on until August 3, 1923, and was laid to rest beside her husband.
BIOGRAPHY: A note to future Historians. There are many BLECHA families in
Southeast Nebraska & Northeast Kansas. It is worthy to note that most came fro
the same village, Hlinec, Bohemia now Czechoslovakia since 1918. At the time o
this history in 1986, the author has been unable to connect this Frank BLECHA
family with other BLECHA families. A baptismal certificate would be most
helpful. It is believed that the Catholic Church in Hlinec would have this
information. The author of this history has many other baptismal certificates
of other BLECHA families in this time period.
