Notes |
- According to the Pieratt Family History: She was from Hazel Green (possibly born there)
There was a notation in the "Early Families of Wolfe County" Section 2:278
It actually read:
3. Rose Ellen, the fifth child in the Steve Pieratt family was born on November 5, 1850. She married J. Morton Pieratt, son of Eli and Gilly Ann Pieratt of Ezel, Kentucky on September 18, 1870. They had three children-Steve, G. Berry, and Elizabeth.
4. Steve married Viccie Kendall and had two daughters, Gladys Pieratt White of Prestonburg, Kentucky and Martha, who is now Mrs. James Nesbitt of Mt. Sterling, Kentucky.
5. G. Berry Pieratt married Annie Ross of Chicago.
6. Elizabeth (Lizzie) married Charles E. Duff of Montgomery County on September 24, 1900. They had met at Hazel Green Academy. "Lizzie and Charley" settled on a farm in Montgomery County. Their daughter Virginia, an honor graduate of the Mt. Sterling High School, graduated from the University of Kentucky with Distinction. She is the wife of Sidney J. Calk of Montgomery County.
Charley E. Duff, a former student and friend of Hazel Green Academy, passed away on September 23, 1951. Not long before this man and his good wife, Lizzie Pieratt Duff, had received the highest honor that can be bestowed upon a working farm-The Master Farmer Award.
They had utilized a part of their 720 acres of farm land for high productive yeilds; they had developed a superior strain of cattle in their pure bred Whiteface Herefords and had sold breeding stock to customers all over the United States. They had shared their benefits with many people and with many organizations.
Today, Hazel Green Academy looks at its herd of cattle; its station wagon; its scholarship fund; and remembers the gracious giving of The Charles E. Duff Family.
