  • John Morris PIERATT

    John Morris PIERATT[1, 2]

    Male 1790 - 1875  (84 years)

Personal Information    |    Notes    |    Sources    |    Event Map    |    All    |    PDF

    • Name John Morris PIERATT
      • I used to have his middle name as McKinley. I got that information from another family tree. However, good documentation from Ivan Pieratt of Houston Texas shows that John may have been the child of Elizabeth Earce with an Edward Morris. Thus, the "M" is probably for Morris. See supporting documentation.

    • Notes
      • From Ivan Pieratt of Houston, Texas:

Valentine Perret married Elizabeth Earee, Nov 6, 1791 by Rev, Bend.

John Earce of Edward Morris and Elizabeth. She is now Elizabeth Peret. Born Dec 14, 1793; Bap May 2, 1794

Another copy of the original records has:
John of Edward Morris and Elizabeth Earce now Peret. John born Dec 14, (handwritten 1793). A genealogist I [Ivan Pieratt] hired viewed this copy and believes this was the record that others above copied with a 1793 date. John?s own census and the Valentine bible state a birth of 1790. This would suggest that John was adopted when Valentine married Elizabeth in 1791 or may have been son of Elizabeth.

      • Based upon the documentation from Ivan Pieratt of Houston Texas (Aug 2012) there is a good chance that John Morris Pieratt was actually born to Edward Morris and Elizabeth Ayre (Earce)-Morris-Pieratt. He is probably born in 1790, 3 years prior to the marriage of Elizabeth and Valentine Pieratt. See the notes from Ivan Pieratt, but I will continue to look at the original records of both his birth and of the marriages of Elizabeth.

[This documentation would further indicate that John's father was other than Valentine Pieratt. However, if in fact, the birth year is correct of 1793, Valentine and Elizabeth were married in 1791. Therefore, this could be a different John Morris than the sone of Valentine.]
      • BIOGRAPHY: John PIERATT had six sons and four daughters. The names were found
in the Morgan County records. The sons, as found in the Morgan County records,
were, Eli, Volantine, Tom, Silas and James. The sixth son was killed in the
Civil War as a Confederate soldier at the Battle of Ivy Mountain in Floyd
County, KY. His name might have been John. We will call him John here. John
and Anna settled on Grassy Creek, Morgan CO, KY.

BIOGRAPHY: Their children are not necessarily in correct birth order.

The Adkins/Metcalf Family Chart lists more children than I have shown.

Article in "The Kentucky Explorer"--October, 1996; Page 92:

"John Pieratt - Native of France. Moved to VA. to Grassy Creek, present Morgan Co., Ky., in 1818, accompanied by Woodwin and Cecil families. Known sons and daughters are Volintine, Eli, Thomas, Silas, Gillie Ann, Mary and another son who was killed at the Battle of Ivy Mountain in 1861."

From "The Pieratt Family in Ezel"
"John Pieratt and his wife, Annie Maxey, lived in Bath County from 1814 until 1823, when they moved to Morgan County near what is now known as Grassy Creek. They owned all of the land that is now called the Cortis Stacy farm, the Monroe Wheeler farm, the Cummings Fugate farm, the McClure farm and the Kelly Nickell farm. They had 11 children."

        Cemetery on John Pieratt's farm:

There was another headstone visible on our visit of October 2009 to the burial site on the Old John Pieratt Farm at Grassy Creek. It appeared to say, "Emily Pieratt" "B Feb. 1818" [not 100% sure of the last "8", but it was a consensus of those of us there. "D Sept. "
