    • Notes
      • Sampson County was originally part of Duplin County in the 1700's. It appears that the Rainer family was in Duplin County as early as 1763 when Daniel Rainer [Sr.] paid 40 pounds for 200 acres on the East side of N. east Branch of Cape Fear River, on the South side of Cypress Creek, at a place called "the Oak".
