      • I don't have 100% proof that this James Mathews is the father of John Mathews. However, this Mathews family is the most closely listed Mathews family to the O'Daniel Family in the 1820 Census in Duplin County, N.C. In addition, my John Mathews names his second son James. Therefore, I will proceed on the assumption that this is a correct link.
