JOSEPH F. BLECHA
Joseph F. Blecha was born October 19, 1848, at Hlinci, near Prague, Czech. and passed away Oct. 10, 1934, at the home of his son, Amos, at the age of 86 years, 11 months and 21 days.
He came to America with his parents in 1866 to Chicago, Ill. About the year 1870 he came to this vicinity where as a young man he started life in the western country.
March 9, 1873, he was united in marriage to Mary Hubka. This young couple left for western regions three days after their wedding in a covered wagon and after 18 days came to and stopped in Decator county, Kansas. Here they spent three years which were the worst years of hardship common to the early pioneers, with only Indians as neighbors and the stately bison as wild animals. After three years of hardship they moved back to Pawnee county and started their home on a farm three miles northwest of DuBois. They lived here until their children were grown and able to start houses of their own. After their lives of hardship they thought they were entitled to a life of ease and to spend their lives in peace with everybody as they did before and made their home at DuBois.
Mr. and Mrs. Blecha were privileged to celebrate their golden wedding anniverary, after which Mrs. Blecha, who had shared with him her life, passed away on February 12, 1927. After the death of his good wife he felt lost, but found a good home with his son, Amos and family, where he peacefully passed the remainder of his life.
He leaves to mourn his passing one son, Amos, and four daughters, Mrs. Mary Holan, Narka, Kan., Mrs. Frank Stanek, Pawnee City, Mrs. Frank Pesek, DuBois, and Mrs. Matilda Kotapish, Blue Rapids, Kan. A son Edward died at the age of nine months and a daughter, Anna, died in infancy. He also leaves 22 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren, one brother Jacob Blecha of Texas, and friends of the entire community.
He was a charter member of the J.A.S. Humboldt. Funeral services were conducted Friday afternoon at the Amos Blecha home with Frank Dobrovolny and Rev. O.J. Krueger in charge. Burial was in the Bohemian cemetery.
