- Sallie's death certificate states that her father was Joel Rainer, but I believe that to be incorrect. Per the 1880 census, I believe she was just the step-daughter to Joel.
I believe Polly had this child out of wedlock, prior to her marriage to Joel.

- It was actually hard for me to believe that at the age of about 78, Joel Rainer married again.
However, after looking at the 1870 and 1880 census, it became clear that Mary "Polly" Beard was actually living with Joel and his wife before Mary "Polly" Wellins Rainer died.
Joel went on to marry Polly Beard and they show up in the 1880 census, and Polly's daughter, Sarah claims Joel as her father in her death record.
